Data Centre Market Assessments (SG & APAC) for a Leading European Bank

PTS was commissioned by a Leading European Bank to conduct a Local DC Market Assessment and a Technical Assessment of its current DC & physical consolidation opportunity as its lease contract with a Colocation (Colo) Provider in Singapore was expiring.

The outcomes from both workstreams were consolidated into a Recommendation Report, covering:

• Technical Assessment of the Existing DC infrastructure, including opportunities for physical consolidation and optimisation.
  

• Singapore Colocation Market Assessment, including evaluation of colo and service providers, pre-qualification of recommended providers and sites against Client's technical and operational requirements.
  

• Option Comparison between the existing DC setup & potential alternatives, including advantages, disadvantages, business benefits, value drivers and associated risks.
  

• Cost Assessment comparing the current operating model against potential alternatives.
  

• Migration Plan outlining key activities, dependencies and indicative timeline for the transition

Following this engagement, and in view of Singapore's three-year moratorium on new DC developments, the client subsequently re-engaged PTS to conduct a broader, APAC DC Market Assessment to determine whether it should:

1) Renew the existing lease and upgrade the current colo facility in Singapore

2) Relocate and migrate the infrastructure to an alternative coloc provider in APAC

PTS worked with the Client to define the critical aspects for its future DC strategy & delivered a detailed assessment report, covering:

• Comprehensive Analysis of ten APAC Countries, including each country’s:

  • Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental factors using the PESTLE framework.

  • Telecommunications Market Maturity & Availability of Cloud Service Providers

  • Subsea Cable Connectivity and International Network Resilience

  • Key DC Providers, Makret Capabilities & Ability to meet Client’s Requirements

• Identification & Rating of Key Risks

• Shortlist of Countries able to deliver mature, resilient and fit-for-purpose services to the Client

• Suitable Facility Locations & DC Providers for each Shortlisted Country

Through PTS’ assessments of the Singapore and wider APAC DC Markets, the Client gained a robust understanding of both the local and regional data centre landscape.

The assessments provided the Client with an evidence-based framework for decision-making, supported by a carefully evaluated shortlist of markets, facilities and providers. This enabled the Client to assess the viability, risks, costs and strategic advantages of each option and make informed data centre investment decisions aligned with its long-term business objectives, operational requirements and resilience strategy.
